Fear of Crime in T&T

This is the latest buzzword making the rounds amongst the talking heads of T&T another instance of importing a concept from the North Atlantic that has no relevance to our reality. Fear of crime in the North Atlantic arose in the pre crack cocaine war on drugs 1980s where the talk was citizens were gripped with a fear of crime that was not supported by the reality of crime incidences painted by the official crime statistics which means that a fear of crime is neurotic at best paranoia at worst. The origin of said discourse and the so-called scientific studies was the result of members of academia sucking up to ruling politicians for funding to manufacture propaganda. Because those studies focused on the areas where the “decent and respectable people lived” to point out to them that their fear of crime was not grounded in reality but evaded the areas where the drug blocks and the bad boys ruled the streets for obvious political reasons. Hence there is no consensus definition in North Atlantic academia for fear of crime as every study done cobbles together a definition to suit their agenda. But what these studies have all done is confirmed the fear that race minorities are the predators with a predilection to criminality and to victimise members of the majority race and so in T&T the methodology replicated here has done the same with the African as the predator and all the rest as victims. When in T&T the talking heads talk of fear of crime and they keep telling us that the annual rate of serious crime is down they are in fact telling us that our fear of crime is neurotic, paranoid, simply sick in the head then don’t blame the politicians and all the other talking heads. With a murder rate for the last four years at 30 and above per 100,000 persons and a detection rate that is below the murder rate and a range of crimes against the person unleashed with impunity then in T&T today neurosis and paranoia is BEING REAL.

The REALITY of the Gas supply deal with Venezuela

Is the Dragon dancing for T&T or another case of being played by Venezuela?

On December 5, 2016 the gas supply deal from Venezuela to Trinidad was signed in Caracas and they danced with the instance of African Venezuelan culture presented at the signing which led me to ask if they dance and what they dance when the Chinese and Russians are in town signing huge deals? From the outset what is potently apparent is that T&T has hitched its wagon to the Maduro dynasty because of the collapse of the strategy embarked on by all ruling politicians in T&T since the arrival of Amoco. They have all failed T&T singularly and we will now pay the price as the Dragon is dancing upon us.

The Mariscal Sucre project is the brain child of deceased Hugo Chavez where four offshore gas fields: Dragon, Patao, Mejillones and Rio Caribe located to the north of the Paria Peninsula will be developed and the gas piped into an industrial complex at Guiria, Sucre state including a LNG train. To-date only the Dragon field is producing gas, it is 100% operated by PDVSA and the gas is feed into the national gas network. In February 2016 PDVSA and Rosneft of Russia announced that they had signed off on an agreement to develop Patao and Mejillones and possibly Rio Caribe but what is to be done with the gas produced was not placed in the public domain and no work on these fields have started to date by the said joint venture. The question remains: why will a foreign investor invest valuable USD in gas production in Venezuela to sell what it produces in Venezuela when Venezuela is BROKE and PDVSA does not have the money to fund the project on its own? Why invest in a LNG train in Venezuela with the US ramping up shale gas production which is bloating their natural gas stocks in storage and there is a world LNG surplus? Then there is the potent example of Repsol and Eni and the Perla field where with the discovery of conservatively 17 trillion cubic feet of gas you are told you must first supply the Venezuelan gas market at a stated volume per day and in 2016 you have almost covered your daily obligation but what happens next? The gas supply market has so changed in Venezuela in 2016 Venezuela is exporting gas to Colombia a drastic change from begging for gas from Colombia when you are obligated under an agreement to supply gas to Colombia. The closed Colombia-Venezuela border was suddenly opened the truck loads of food started coming into Venezuela and the Venezuelans cross over into Colombia looking for food to purchase with Bolivars that are accepted in Colombia now there is talk of formal exchange convertibility. By comparison what is happening with Maduro’s USD 50 million revolving fund for purchases in T&T? It went Colombia! So the food flowed then the Venezuela gas flowed to Colombia along with all the illicit tankers of gasoline, LPG etc. back to business gangstas rule!

An article in Oil & Gas Journal states that T&T wants 500 million scf/d of gas from Mariscal Sucre but since is only Dragon presently in production only 100 million scf/d will be sold to T&T and the rest when the other fields come on stream. T&T has then to wait on Rosneft time to now kiss up to Putin join the line behind Trump! We are now looking for 500 million scf/d with daily demand in T&T in excess of 3,000 m scf/d. No matter the Maduro gambit the present government has to dance with BP and grapple with the demands BP is making since the last government. Kamla’s strategy of denial and do nothing aren’t working whilst we are now Maduro’s bitch but I wonder what he wants from T&T? And a future Putin bitch then a XI bitch as we might have to go to Beijing to beg for their help with Maduro and whoever follows and with Putin. This is where the politics of race put us!

Checking the facts of a T&T drug story

A facts check of a drug story on Caribbean trafficking

The story in the Daily Express December 2, 2016 “Two Trinis held in the US” by Mark Bassant is the focus of this facts check which will reveal if what is published reflects reality. Bassant insists that the US authorities mounted a sting operation named “Operation Unified Resolve” to seize a yacht with 150 kilos of cocaine on board and arrested two Trinidadian males on board the vessel. “Operation Unified Resolve” is an ongoing operation of the US Coast Guard (USCG) since 2012 charged with interdicting illicit maritime activity in the waters of the US Caribbean territories of Puerto Rico and the US Virgin Islands. This was then no “sting operation” to catch a yacht with a piddling 150 k this was daily business and a naval asset usually of US Southern Command will take part in this operation but under the operational rules of the USCG seen in the fact that personnel of the USCG must board the vessel, search, seize and arrest. This is not Operation Martillo which takes place in non US territorial waters. The article states that the two men were arrested on July 1, 2016 and arraigned on July 12, 2016 in Florida and presently held in Pinellas County jail, Florida. The USCG issued a press release dated July 18, 2016 which reported that the USS Shamal whilst on patrol under the aegis of the USCG’s ongoing operation came upon a 49-foot sail boat with two male crew members which was boarded by the USCG contingent and 75 kilos of cocaine was recovered after being dumped overboard. A 49-foot sailboat is certainly not a yacht and 75k is not 150k of cocaine. The USCG news release revealed that the USS Shamal then intercepted a go-fast boat with 75k of cocaine and two crew members aboard who were also arrested. On July 18, 2016 the USCG Cutter Alligator offloaded the 150k seized by the USS Shamal at St. Petersburg, Florida with an estimated wholesale value of US$ 5 million. The persons arrested on the two drug transports would have been ferried much earlier to be arraigned in a US court. To put it mildly the expose in the Express is not meshing with the release form the USCG. The picture of the seized 150k of cocaine in the Daily Express story and its online version is reproduced in an online story on the said drug busts by wfla.com and the said picture is captioned as the 150k of cocaine seized by the USS Shamal and this wfla.com story repeats the USCG press release as being the result of interdicting two drug vessels not one. There is no USCG press release for July reporting on the seizure of a yacht with 150 k of cocaine with two men on aboard much less with a third one in a dinghy interdicted under Operation Unified Resolve. The article says that the FBI stated that the two men were arrested in the Eastern Caribbean which is the mandate of this operation. A seizure of 150k and then the making of a case to extradite the kingpin does not exclude silencing the placing in the public domain the report that the interdiction and arrest were made that is sweating the target and showing the US public that the war on drugs in winnable.

In the Caribbean trade today no player hands product over to someone on “consignment”. You are either part of the organisation with your designated task being transport so when the drug vessel approaches its assigned destination you hand it over to coastal transport who then hand it over to those charged with holding and protecting for the next phase that is how the Mexican trafficking organisations do business. Other than the MTTOs some will hire a transporter who has to hand it over to an organisation which receives it and that’s the sum total of the work of the transporter you lose it you pay for it. And the lowest level the 75k level are those who have some product but no organisational structure necessary to move, land, sell, cash mule the proceeds for laundry services and collect the washed proceeds. These are soon parted from their product by any means necessary. These will then form an alliance with those who can supposedly supply the services needed to place, sell product and wash the proceeds in the EU and the US. This lowest level is under extreme pressure exerted by the Mexican traffickers and their Caribbean gangland affiliates and the next level is operating on borrowed time as the Colombian organisations in the Caribbean are now affiliates of the Mexican trafficking organisations (MTTOs). The MTTOs are now moving up the trafficking food chain of the Caribbean and the strain on the decent and respectable people is now legion. Is Pressure that does bus pipe especially when the US extradition warrant touchdown in Piarco.
